EHP and EMS Cases on the Rise in Southeast Asian Shrimp Farms
The Southeast Asia’s shrimp industry may suffer from Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) and Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS) cases, which increased from 2017 to 2019 due to accumulation of the pathogens in the hatchery system.
It was found that EHP and EMS were only present in 4% and 8% of post-larvae samples respectively, in 2018. However, their numbers have greatly increased in 2019, with at least 10% of the post-larvae samples having either EMS or EHP.
